Every month we welcome families making the Costa del Sol their home. The questions are always the same: what first, what can wait, and what should have been prepared before arriving. This is the sequence we recommend — and run — for a calm first month.

Cada mes acompañamos a familias que convierten la Costa del Sol en su hogar. Las preguntas son siempre las mismas: qué va primero, qué puede esperar y qué debería haberse preparado antes de llegar. Esta es la secuencia que recomendamos — y ejecutamos — para un primer mes tranquilo.

Week one — identity. The NIE is the key that opens every other door in Spain, so it comes first, together with the padrón (municipal registration). With appointments booked ahead of your arrival, both can be resolved in days rather than weeks.

Semana uno — identidad. El NIE es la llave que abre todas las demás puertas en España, así que va primero, junto con el empadronamiento. Con las citas reservadas antes de su llegada, ambos se resuelven en días, no en semanas.

Week two — money. A Spanish bank account, direct debits for the home, and the digital certificate that lets us deal with public bodies online on your behalf — quietly the most valuable document in the whole process.

Semana dos — dinero. Cuenta bancaria española, domiciliaciones de la vivienda y el certificado digital que nos permite gestionar organismos públicos online en su nombre — discretamente, el documento más valioso de todo el proceso.

Week three — health. Private healthcare enrolment while any visa conditions are still fresh, registration with a family doctor, and — for those who need it — the transfer of prescriptions and medical records.

Semana tres — salud. Alta en sanidad privada mientras las condiciones del visado siguen recientes, registro con un médico de familia y — para quien lo necesite — el traslado de recetas e historiales médicos.

Week four — daily life. Schooling confirmed and uniforms ordered, the car registered or imported, home insurance reviewed under Spanish law, and the household calendar — cleaning, garden, pool — running to a rhythm you no longer have to think about.

Semana cuatro — la vida diaria. Colegio confirmado y uniformes encargados, el coche matriculado o importado, el seguro del hogar revisado bajo ley española y el calendario doméstico — limpieza, jardín, piscina — funcionando a un ritmo en el que usted ya no tiene que pensar.
